Survey: should SAIEES be kept alive?

22 March 2011

As you may recall, the Board of the Southern African Institute for Environmental Assessment (SAIEA) agreed to take on the management of our Institute as 'interim caretaker' in 2006. This move was designed to 'keep SAIEES alive' until we could figure out the way forward in the long term. At the 2009 IAIA South Africa conference, we ran a session entitled "SAIEES on the move", to gauge feelings amongst those in attendance as to where they would like to see the institute going.

Calls for inputs to improve proposed new SETA landscape and the new National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS III) for South Africa

Environmental sustainability is high on the agenda of most governments and South African government in particular is re-positioning environmental education in the context of changing political economy of sustainable development. The government is calling for inputs into new proposals that are intended to improve skills planning landscape; SETA (Sector Education and Training Authority) landscape and the new National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS III).

The Cape Town City Council has recently adopted two policies to regulate the Stormwater Management Service in the City of Cape Town. A presentation on 26 November forms part of a City wide programme towards ensuring timeous and consistent implementation of these two policies. Attendance by professionals consulting in this sector will be most welcome.

SAIEES representation on SACNASP

13 June 2009

Our previous Chairperson, Bill Harding, has been appointed by the Minister of Science and Technology to serve on the SACNASP Council for a period of 4 years. This is the first time SAIEES, as a voluntary organization, has had direct representation on this Committee. Bill has recently attended the first meetings for 2009 and has passed the following on to us.
