| Expertise | My major fields of environmental expertise are river management (specialising in the Orange River System), wetlands, mining impact assessments and rehabilitation, and developmental impact assessments (urban development, etc). (1) River management includes fish, aquatic and semi-aquatic plants. Water quality, flow patterns, effects of river regulation and catchment utilisation, and agricultural pests. The management proposals from my MSc thesis, which to a greater or lesser extent, addressed these issues, were accepted as Northern Cape provincial policy on the Orange River. (2) Wetlands include the Northern Cape wetland types (mainly cyclic pans), the Orange River Mouth, and fish populations in the Northern Cape dams. |
